About Sustainability News Lab
Sustainability News Lab is an innovative project that unites journalism, communication, and sustainability, set to redefine the narrative, empower future communicators, and inspire action. The initiative of launching this project belongs to GuerrillaVerde.ro, renowned for its commitment to environmental education in Romania, and was officially presented to the audience during the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) 2023.
Sustainability News Lab asks a fundamental question: Why sustainability journalism and communication? The project centers on educating the next generation of journalists and communicators about the significance of sustainability journalism and communication. We aim to equip journalism students, professionals, NGOs, and specialists in sustainability with the skills needed to effectively report on sustainability issues and communicate them to a broader audience.
The project launched with the support from partners such as the Embassy of France, the French Institute, the Embassy of Sweden in Romania, IKEA, Tetra Pak, the Alucro Association, RespoDEEE, and higher education institutions in Romania, facilitating interaction with students from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences, Bucharest; the Faculty of Communication and Public Relations - SNSPA, Bucharest; the Faculty of Letters, Specialization in Journalism - Ovidius University Constanţa; the Faculty of Social-Human Sciences, Specialization in Journalism - National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Pitesti University Center; the University of the West in Timisoara.

Workshops
In order to create an ecosystem that empowers the next generation of sustainability communicators and inspire transformative actions, under the umbrella of the project were organized three dedicated workshops focused on Communication and Journalism for Sustainability. From Theory to Practice.
The purpose of the workshops was helping participants to have solid understanding of selected sustainability topics through practical examples in the fields of sustainable operations, circular economy, recycling, and biodiversity protection, providing them with a solid foundation to address sustainability challenges.

2023 Edition
The third stage of Sustainability News Lab was dedicated to research and creation of content dedicated to sustainability – journalism and communication materials. The competition was open to students from Romania, as for those individuals interested in the subject.
Six of the materials received awards and the title Sustainability Star Award.
